Philips Fidelio X2HR Review

I’m OllieBeanz and welcome to this review of the Philips Fidelio X2HR headphones. This channel is about things I freaking love, so spoiler alert, I love fucking these headphones.

The Philips Fidelio X2HR’s are considered entry level hifi headphones, but they don’t really feel like budget headphones to me.

In this video we’ll cover sound quality, sound stage, and the physical build and durability.

So let’s get right into this Philips Fidelio X2HR review.

  • Which are a great length and have a handy clip to help organize them.
• 3.5mm to 6.5mm adapter
  • Which I don’t use because my headphone amp the soundblaster G6 has a 3.5 input.
• And the Instruction booklet

Philips Fidelio X2HR Features

Let’s get right into the features of the Philips X2HR’s.

The HRs have 50mm Neodymium Dynamic Drivers. These are an upgrade from the 40mm drivers on the Philips Fidelio L2s and provide a larger soundstage that pairs very well with the open-back design of the HRs.

The drivers on the X2HRs are also LMC or Layered Motion Control drivers. Which have a damping gel that acts as a flexible boundary to absorb exaggerated frequencies, allowing for a more balanced and natural range of high frequencies.

The drivers are also pre-tilted at a 15 degree angle which align much more naturally with your ears than untitled drivers.

The open-back design increases the sound-stage of these headphones even more. The open-back design also means you’ll be less isolated from the outside world. Which is perfect for me needing to hear the phone ring or my dogs begging to go for a walk.

One of my favorite parts about the non-audio features is the self-adjusting hammock. You really have to try them on to see what I’m talking about, but this makes them more comfortable than any other headset I’ve ever owned.

If a hammock for your dome isn’t enough comfort the velour cushions will be. I’ve had expensive headphones with leather or faux leather cushions, that while they look great, weren’t that comfortable. The velour cushions on the X2HRs are so comfortable I pretty much forget I even have them on.

This is the hammock we talked about. It automatically adjusts when you put the headphones on. No more messing around trying to find that sweet spot. You can also see the velour cushions. Which again, are comfortable as fuck, but they can get a little dirty with things like dust and hair, so keep that in mind. But even with my 3 dogs it hasn’t been much of an issue.

And here’s all the specs for you audiophiles taken right from the Philips website. I always recommend using the manufacturer’s website when looking at specs. Sites like Amazon can have errors or inconsistencies a lot of the time.

I’ll explain what some of these mean.

Frequency response of 5 – 40,000 Hz covers the gambit of any frequency the human ear can hear. The range of human hearing is around 20 to 20,000Hz. So you’re not going to miss out on any high or low frequencies with the X2HRs

30 Ohm impedance means you aren’t going to need an external amp to power these headphones, but you can. I use a Sound Blaster G6 with these and they pair really well together. 

If you do decide to pair these with an amp just make sure to take the 500mW max power input into consideration as well, so you don’t blow them out.

Speaker Diameter, acoustic system and the rest we covered under features, but the less than .1% THD distortion means you’ll be hearing an incredibly accurate representation of whatever you’re listening to.

Conclusion

The Philips Fidelio X2HRs are the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever used. They have a large soundstage and are an excellent choice for music, movies and gaming.
