Convert Mov to Webm
Converting and mov to a webm files is a popular conversion, especially for streaming software. Webm videos are lighter weight and can have transparent backgrounds.
We’re going to be using https://www.shutterencoder.com/. Shutter Encoder is free to use and works on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Shutter encoder is a GUI for FFmpeg, which is really popular command line encoding software. Shutter Encoder let’s you just click a couple of buttons to convert video files.
Once you’re on the website just click downloads.

They have Windows versions, Mac versions as well as Linux versions. I like the portable Windows version.
I prefer the portable windows version so you don’t have to install anything.
Portable version versus install version: a portable doesn’t get installed in your machine, so it doesn’t edit your registry files, and doesn’t take up any resources in the background. You don’t have to worry about it being a startup program and but then also, you need to remember where you stored the actual file, because you’re not gonna be able to search in your apps. I do recommend donating to these folks, because this piece of software is really great. I definitely donated. Then after you’ve downloaded it, you’ll just unzip the file. That’ll give you this folder here.
Run the Program
Double click on shutter encoder and then drag the mov file you want to convert.

Under choose function you want to choose VP9. VP8 eight will work as well, but VP9 is the newer version, so it’s just better in every way.

There are some settings you may want to edit here, for example, audio settings. You can turn audio on or off. It’s default to on.

Then there are advanced features, you’re going to want to enable alpha channel if you have any transparency in the background, like I do with these alerts.

Then you just want to hit Start function.

It goes very quickly and once it’s done you have a converted webm file from your mov file.
