Quentin Tarantino Clears Up Whether Or Not He’ll Direct New Star Trek

One of the more exciting and enduring pieces of Hollywood news over the past year was about Quentin Tarantino potentially directing a new Star Trek movie. Unfortunately for those who wanted to see what a Tarantino-directed Star Trek would look like, it may never happen.

Tarantino told Deadline that he believes Sony will produce the new Star Trek movie written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), but he probably won’t direct. That being said, the Oscar-winning director behind Once Upon a Time in Hollywood said he would be eager to contribute to the new Star Trek in a more behind-the-scenes capacity.

“I think they might make that movie, but I just don’t think I’m going to direct it. It’s a good idea. They should definitely do it and I’ll be happy to come in and give them some notes on the first rough cut,” he said.

This is not a surprise, as Tarantino said last month that he was “steering away” from directing the new Star Trek, adding at the time that he never met with Sony about it in the first place.

This new Star Trek movie is separate from the one from Fargo’s Noah Hawley that will bring back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, and Zoe Saldana.

Tarantino said he still does plan to make at least one more movie, though it might not be on the scale of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which stars Leonardo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt and carries a reported $90 million budget.

The director’s next movie could be a new Kill Bill, though at this stage nothing is confirmed.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood picked up 10 Oscar nominations, including nods for Best Picture and Best Director, while Pitt and DiCaprio also notched nods for Lead and Supporting actor awards, respectively.
